The Gardens of Hope
The Gardens Of Hope is a website and community initiative that aims to promote wellbeing and a connection with nature through growing kitchen gardens. The project promotes deeper connections with nature’s rhythms— by encouraging us to spend time around greenery, offering not just personal health benefits, but also climate action, biodiversity restoration, and sustainable living. The name ‘Gardens Of Hope’ is symbolic, representing the growth of hope in the Nizamuddin Basti, one of the most densely populated areas in the country.
Project Goals
Financial Empowerment
The aim is that by growing one’s own kitchen garden, the residents of the basti reduce their grocery bill by 15-20%
Better Nutrition & Wellbeing
This is a powerful double benefit of having agency over one’s own food and nutrition by using organic ingredients and growing local and seasonal vegetables for the family. And while doing that, the tending of these gardens, as is well documented, has great wellbeing benefits
Environmental
Creating a system by which households can grow a portion of their food requirements in their own balconies reduces carbon emissions due to reduction in transportation, packaging and also chemicals in the form of pesticides released in the environment
Bringing the Community Together
In a structured and thoughtful manner whereby people get involved and participate in the upliftment of their own community. We provide some support and guidance through a technical gardening expert which allows for the community to co-create thriving Gardens of Hope
